Lily is having a bad time at school. Her teacher, Mr Hipkin, is off sick. Her class has a different teacher every day. The substitute teachers are hilarious characters but they don't notice or understand Lily. Worst of all, another girl in class called Ruby is bullying Lily about her nervous blinking. But, at least she feels happy when she works on the castle she's building at break times. And at night she dreams of another castle, full of strange magic that helps her solve the problems she faces in the real world. One day Ruby goes one step too far and Lily does something truly awful in revenge. Lily's crime leads to a lot of comedy, adventure but a lot of worry. In the end Lily learns a lot about being brave and makes a very unlikely friend.
